Land Management

In addition to classes, I offer a variety of landowner services:

  • Landscape design featuring native and edible plants
  • Plant, shrub and tree installation
  • Garden bed maintenance
  • Consultations on land use, management, and design

If it involves anything more than my professional stainless steel clippers and a shovel, it’s out of my wheelhouse. I don’t mow, I don’t clear brambles, and I’ll probably try to take your weeds home to eat them.

My process:

  1. Get in touch Let’s chat. Shoot me an email with some vague details and your location, and I’ll call with follow up questions. I’m generally able to provide cost outlines from the phone call.
  2. I’ll visit the property, chat a bit more and provide a detailed estimate on the spot or within 24 hours.

My background:

My first job was getting paid by my father to work his 4 acre vineyard with pruning, trellising, and harvest, but we would also walk the 40 odd acres of forest surrounding it to discuss the forest composition, differences in soil structure and how that affected the grapevines, and how to use our senses to notice subtle changes in the environment that could be affecting the growth of the vineyard. Our home was located on a large, steep hill and the back gardens were a European design with three terraces in addition to sprawling rows of lavender and blue hydrangea. The front had an enormous circular driveway lined with crepe myrtles and junipers, beds of azaleas, statues and urns, dripping with ivy and endless weeding to be done.

In college I studied theater and found myself drawn to lighting design, specifically for dance productions. I was able to visualize scenes in 3D easily and that skill allows me to visualize what the plants will look like as they grow, flower, and die back.

My aim is to give you seasons of color and visual interest by putting the right plant in the right spot for your land. This reduces initial costs and lowers maintenance, but the choice is always up to the customer at the end of the day!
